From Col. William C Oates, Commanding, 15th Alabama. SIR: I have the honor to report, in obedience to orders from brigade headquarters, the participation of my regiment in the battle near Gettysburg on the 2d ultimo.

On July 2, 1863, 499 men of the 15th Alabama Infantry charged up the boulder-strewn slopes of Little Round Top into the rifles of Colonel Joshua Chamberlain's 20th Maine. By nightfall, every commissioned officer in Company G was dead or dying. The Maine Rebels, based in Farmington, portray the Henry Pioneers (15th AL Co. G) as a member unit of the Liberty Greys.
