The 12th Georgia, as a whole, saw one of the lowest instances of surrender at Appomattox Courthouse in April of 1865. From 1861 to 1865, the 12th Georgia was met with some of the most action of units in the American Civil War. At the Battle of Gettysburg, the 12th Georgia saw just 16.21% of their 370 field men killed, missing, or injured.

Company F. ("Davis Guards"), of Dooly County and under the command of Captain Brown, had at least 150 mustered members.

Company G. ("Putnam Light Infantry"), of Putnam County and under the command of Captain Davis, mustered at least 130 individuals.

The Liberty Grays were a militia company that was incorporated into the 12th Georgia Infantry Regiment. Further, the Liberty Grays became Company G of the 12th Georgia Infantry
